CISUTAC and Oxfam Ireland working together to promote the circular economy

“Do Good. Donate.”

Oxfam Ireland and CISUTAC recently launched the “Do Good. Donate” campaign to encourage people to donate their pre-loved items and highlight how this can positively impact the environment. Selected Oxfam shops are displaying a standout design on their windows and sharing information on social media to spread the campaign message.

What is CISUTAC?

The CISUTAC project was created in 2022 and is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe, which is a seven-year European Union scientific research initiative. CISUTAC brings together leading global brands, research and technology organisations, groups, and associations from the European Union.

  • What are the challenges created by clothing overconsumption in Europe?
  • How to minimise the impact of the textile sector and promote reusing, donating and buying second-hand?
  • What is the understanding of consumers about circularity and what can be done to influence clothing consumption behaviour?

The CISUTAC project aims to answer questions like these, promoting circularity and a more sustainable textile industry in Europe.

The term circular economy means extending the lifecycle of materials to avoid overproduction and overconsumption, while prioritising recycling and supply chains based on sustainability. CISUTAC seeks to look at innovative ways to promote more dialogue in policymaking and broaden the knowledge and interest in circularity.

As one of CISUTAC's key partners, Oxfam Ireland will play an important role in an upcoming consumer survey, which will measure and identify how people in Ireland perceive the concept of circular clothing. With the help of the findings from the survey, a nationwide awareness campaign will then be created, focused on encouraging people to embrace circularity in their relationship with fashion. This includes reusing items, extending the lifecycle of clothes and examining if you’re purchasing clothes excessively or throwing away clothes that can be repaired or donated.
