New Director of Public Affairs Announced
Oxfam Ireland today announced the appointment of Bríd McGrath as their Director of Public Affairs.
The Director of Public Affairs is a new role in the organisation bringing together the Policy and Advocacy and Campaigns and Communications teams into a new unit.
Bríd has extensive experience in the NGO sector and within government. As Head of Public Policy for Respond Housing Bríd was part of the transformation of that organisation to one of Ireland’s leading builders of social housing. As Head of Communications for Amnesty Ireland she worked on the historic marriage equality referendum, the decriminalisation of abortion and campaigns to release prisoners of conscience.
Previously, Bríd was a special adviser to then Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Eamon Ryan and worked on the Africa desk and in Irish Aid in the Department of Foreign Affairs. She has worked for the United Nations in Rome and has recently returned from Chile with her family.
Bríd said, “I am delighted to be taking up this role in Oxfam Ireland, an organisation I have long admired. I love to work at the intersection of policy, press and politics – it’s where I believe the magic happens – and this position is ideal for me to use my skills while growing and learning.”
CEO of Oxfam Ireland Jim Clarken said, “I am really excited about Bríd’s appointment. She brings with her considerable experience in the not-for-profit and government sectors. In every role Bríd has had she has made a lasting impact. She is ambitious for Ireland and our place in the world and is passionate about fighting injustice. I look forward to working closely with her to expand the reach and maximise the impact of Oxfam Ireland.”
