Why leave a legacy? By leaving a gift in your will, you’re making sure that your impact will reach far beyond your lifetime.
Des Moran worked at Oxfam Ireland for 10 years, on our Fundraising team. He retired in August 2024. As he starts a new chapter of his life, he reflects on why he has included Oxfam in his will.
“The reason I want to talk about Legacy giving is because Oxfam has such great values. That's why I’m leaving a small gift in my will, because I trust Oxfam to continue to do the work it’s doing and spend the money wisely,"
— Des Moran, legacy donor
Before he started working at Oxfam, Des had his own business in the private sector. He left that and went back to college to study counselling and psychotherapy. He saw an advertisement about Oxfam and then joined the Fundraising team.
“Through my work with Oxfam I’ve certainly learned that there’s total inequality in the world. Oxfam has such a great way of empowering people, through its programmes, not just to survive, but to thrive.”
