The international community must do everything in its power to ensure there is no return to violence.
Call for a permanent #CeasefireNow in Gaza and Lebanon
Finally, there is a glimmer of hope for the people of Gaza. But this ceasefire must be permanent and not just for six weeks. There can be no return to the killing and injuring of innocent civilians.
There must be unlimited humanitarian aid allowed in, and all Gazan borders opened to boost this influx. Irish people have been firm in their support and now is not the time to waver. This is a critical point in Gaza and Lebanon.
Please show solidarity and add your voice to amplify the call for:
- A permanent #CeasefireNow in Gaza and Lebanon not just a pause. The peace agreed is fragile and needs our support.
- Immediate and widespread access to life-saving humanitarian aid, including food, water and fuel.
- Pass the Occupied Territories Bill as a matter of urgency.
We cannot return to more needless deaths. We cannot allow people to die of starvation, dehydration or preventable illnesses because of political failure. Organisations like Oxfam and our partners need full access, to resume humanitarian programmes in Gaza and Lebanon.
Now when there is some hope, we must insist on a brighter future for the traumatised people of the region. Together we will continue to advocate for a #Ceasefire Now and a lasting peace which will allow Oxfam to adequately deliver and provide lifesaving aid in Gaza and Lebanon.
We call on the Irish Government to speedily enact the Occupied Territories Bill; to review all national and international trade agreements; and to use their influence at EU Council level to push for a full #CeasefireNow by all parties in Gaza, Lebanon and across the region. This is the only way to get enough humanitarian aid and life-saving assistance to civilians enduring unimaginable pain and suffering.
If you're based in Northern Ireland, you can send a #CEASEFIRENOW message to the UK Government here. Thank you for your solidarity and support
